Sulphurous Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake located in the Cariboo Region of British Columbia, Canada. It's often considered part of the Interlakes area because it's close to Deka Lake. The lake has just one boat launch, which is now a special recreation spot for everyone to enjoy.
Fun at Sulphurous Lake
Sulphurous Lake is a popular place for both visitors and people who live nearby. It's home to the Sulphurous Lake Resort, where families can stay and have fun.
The Sulphurous Lake Volunteer Fire Department helps keep the homes safe, especially those on the north side of the lake. They also host a yearly fishing contest on the lake, which is a big event for the community!
A large part of the lake's eastern side is next to Rainbow/Q'iwentem Provincial Park. This park helps protect the natural beauty and wildlife around the lake. The boat launch is now an official recreation site, making it easy for people to get out on the water.
Fishing in the Lake
Sulphurous Lake is a great spot for fishing! The lake is regularly stocked with two types of fish:
- Rainbow Trout
- Kokanee
If you're fishing for Lake Trout, you can keep one fish per person each day. However, between October 1st and November 30th, all Lake Trout caught must be released back into the water. This helps keep the fish population healthy.
Lake History
The name "Sulphurous Lake" has been used for a long time, but exactly why it was named that is still a bit of a mystery!
