Summerston railway station is a train station in the Summerston area of Glasgow, Scotland. It helps people travel around the city. The station is on the Maryhill Line. It is about 6.8 kilometers (4.25 miles) northwest of Glasgow Queen Street station. ScotRail operates the trains here. They do this for Strathclyde Partnership for Transport.

History of Summerston Station

The first Summerston station was in a different spot. It closed in 1951. That old station was about 2.4 kilometers (1.5 miles) north of the current one. It was on a railway line that no longer exists.

The station you see today is much newer. It opened on December 2, 1993. It was one of five stations built for the Maryhill Line project. This project was done by British Rail.

The railway tracks themselves are quite old. They were first opened in 1858. This was part of the Glasgow, Dumbarton and Helensburgh Railway. Later, the tracks were used by the West Highland Line. This allowed trains to reach Queen Street High Level station.

When the Maryhill Line first opened, trains only went as far as Maryhill. But in 2005, the services were extended. Trains could then go all the way to Anniesland. This made it easier to connect to the North Clyde Line.
