Sumterville is a small community in the middle of Sumter County, Florida. It is not a city with its own government. This community, and the county it's in, are both named after General Thomas Sumter. He was a brave hero during the American Revolutionary War. Sumterville was once an important place, serving as the main government center for Sumter County.

Sumterville is located in central Florida. It is surrounded by other towns and natural areas. To the south is the city of Bushnell. To the north is the city of Coleman. To the west, you'll find Lake Panasoffkee. The eastern border is the line for Lake County.

Main Roads

  • US 301 runs north and south right through Sumterville.
  • State Road 471 also goes through the area. It ends when it meets US 301.
  • County Road 470 travels east and west. For a short distance, it shares the same path as US 301. It also marks the northern end of State Road 471.

Highways and Railroads

  • Interstate 75 runs along the western side of Sumterville.
  • County Road 475 is also on the western edge.
  • The CSX Wildwood Subdivision is a railroad line. It used to carry Amtrak's Palmetto train until 2004.
  • There was a smaller railroad track that went directly into Sumterville. This track was removed in the 1930s.
  • Exit 321 on I-75 is the exit for Sumterville and Lake Panasoffkee. It connects to County Road 470. If you are going north, Exit 321 also leads to County Road 475.
  • Another old railroad line, which carried the Silver Meteor train, also went through Sumterville. This line was removed in 1988.
