The Sun Kosi is an important river that flows from the high lands of Tibet into Nepal. It's a big part of the Kosi River system, which eventually flows into India. The name 'Sun Kosi' is special! In the Nepali language, 'sun' means gold, and 'kosi' means river. So, it's like the "Golden River." Many people love to visit this river for exciting rafting adventures in Nepal.

The Sun Kosi River: A Golden Journey

The Sun Kosi river starts its long journey high up in Tibet. It flows through amazing landscapes before reaching Nepal. This river is known for its clear waters and the beautiful areas it passes through.

Where Does the Sun Kosi Start and End?

The Sun Kosi begins its flow in the mountains of Tibet. It starts at a very high elevation, about 8,012 meters (26,286 feet) above sea level. Imagine how high that is! As it travels, it drops down to a much lower elevation.

In Nepal, the Sun Kosi joins two other major rivers: the Arun and the Tamur. When these three rivers meet, they form a bigger river system called the Saptkoshi. This meeting point is at a place called Trivenighat in Nepal. The elevation here is much lower, around 640 meters (2,100 feet).

What Rivers Join the Sun Kosi?

The Sun Kosi has several smaller rivers that flow into it. These are called tributaries.

  • On its left side, rivers like the Tamba Koshi, Likhu Khola, and Dudh Kosi add their waters.
  • On its right side, the Indravati River joins the Sun Kosi.

These tributaries help make the Sun Kosi a powerful river.
