How SunnyD Started
The idea for Sunny Delight, which is now called SunnyD, began in 1963. Two people named Howard Dick and Phil Grinnell started it in Florida.
A few years later, in 1966, a company that bottled Coca-Cola bought Sunny Delight. Then, in 1982, The Coca-Cola Company itself bought Sunny Delight and its parent company, Doric Foods.
In 1983, Doric Foods was sold again. This time, it became part of a new company called Sundor Brands Inc. Later, in 1989, Procter & Gamble bought Sundor. By the late 1990s, SunnyD drinks were sold in Canada and Europe.
In 2004, Sunny Delight Beverages Co. became a separate company. A company called J. W. Childs bought the Sunny Delight brands from Procter & Gamble. During the 2000s, Sunny Delight Beverages Co. started selling more kinds of drinks. They launched the Elations brand in 2007. They also bought the Veryfine and Fruit20 brands from Kraft that same year. In 2009, they bought the Bossa Nova brand too.
In 2011, the part of the company that sold Sunny Delight in Europe was sold to Orangina Schweppes. Then, in 2016, J. W. Childs sold Sunny Delight Beverages Co. to Brynwood Partners.
