Sunset Speedway is an exciting place for car racing! It's an oval track approved by NASCAR, located in Innisfil, Ontario, Canada. The track is about 0.536 kilometers (or 0.333 miles) long and has slightly sloped turns, which makes for thrilling races.
Every year, from May to September, Sunset Speedway hosts races on Saturday nights. You can see different types of race cars, like Junior Late Models, Bone Stocks, Mini Stocks, Super Stocks, and Late Models. Special racing series, such as the NASCAR Canada Series and the APC United Late Model Series, also visit the track.
History of Sunset Speedway
Sunset Speedway first opened its doors in 1968. Many years later, in May 2009, new owners bought the track. They worked hard to make it even better! They put down new asphalt for the track, fixed up the grandstands where fans sit, and added a special 'pit road' for racing teams.
In 2015, another nearby track called Barrie Speedway closed. Because of this, NASCAR decided to bring its weekly races to Sunset Speedway. That same year, Sunset Speedway also hosted the NASCAR Canada Series for the very first time.
NASCAR Canada Series Races
The NASCAR Canada Series (which used to be called the NASCAR Pinty's Series) first raced at Sunset Speedway on July 20, 2015. This big event was called the Leland Industries 300. Alex Tagliani was the first driver to win this race, and he won it again in 2016!
After a few years, NASCAR announced that the series would return to Sunset Speedway in 2020. Since then, many exciting races have taken place, with different drivers winning. For example, in 2022 and 2023, Treyten Lapcevich won the NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 250 race.
