Suntec City is a huge place in Singapore that has many different uses. It's like a mini-city within a city! You can find a big shopping mall, many office buildings, and a large convention centre all in one spot. Building Suntec City started on January 18, 1992, and it was fully finished and opened on July 22, 1997.

What Makes Suntec City Special?

Suntec City was designed by a company called Tsao & McKown Architects. They used ideas from Chinese feng shui, which is about how things are placed to bring good luck and harmony.

How is Suntec City Designed?

If you look at Suntec City from above, the five main buildings and the convention center are arranged to look like a left hand. The famous Fountain of Wealth is placed right in the middle, looking like a golden ring on the palm of the hand.

What is the Fountain of Wealth?

The Fountain of Wealth is made of bronze. People believe that the mix of metal (from the bronze) and water (from the fountain) helps bring success and good fortune. Even the Chinese name for Suntec, 新达 (Xīndá), means "new achievement"!

What Can You Find at Suntec City?

The Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre is a huge place for big meetings, shows, and events. It first opened on November 1, 1994, and was known as SICEC. In 2004, it got its current name. This center has a massive 100,000 square meters of space spread out over many levels!

What Events Happen Here?

This convention center has hosted many important events. For example, during the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics, it was used for sports like boxing, fencing, handball, judo, taekwondo, and wrestling.

Suntec City Mall

Suntec City Mall is a very large shopping center inside Suntec City. When it opened in 1994, it was the biggest mall in Singapore! It has about 88,800 square meters of shops. It even has a special club house called the Suntec City Guild House on its fifth floor.

How Big is the Mall?

The mall is so big that it has about 360 different shops! To help shoppers find their way, it's divided into four main areas:

  • The West Wing: This part is on the lower floors near the convention center. It has fancy international brands, especially for people attending events or tourists. It was updated and reopened in June 2013.
  • The North Wing: Here you'll find high-end shops and restaurants where you can eat outdoors.
  • The Fountain Terrace: This area is located around the famous Fountain of Wealth. It's mostly filled with places to eat and drink.
  • The East Wing: This section is all about fun! It has entertainment, technology stores, and lifestyle shops.

Suntec City Mall also hosted the New Year's Eve countdown for a TV channel in 2016/2017.

Suntec City Office Towers

Suntec City has five tall office buildings, called Towers One through Five. Four of these towers are very tall, with 45 stories each. The fifth tower is shorter, with 18 stories.

How are the Towers Designed?

Just like the hand design, Towers One to Four represent the four fingers, and the shorter Tower 5 represents the thumb. Together, all the office towers have about 2.3 million square feet of office space!

Who Works in These Towers?

Many important offices are located here. Some countries have their embassies or trade offices in these towers. For example, the Embassy of Spain is in Tower 1, the Embassy of Rwanda is in Tower 3, and the Taiwan Trade Center is in Tower 4.
