Surveyors Bay is located about 43 kilometers (about 27 miles) south of a town called Huonville. In 2016, a count of people living there, called a census, showed that only 47 people lived in Surveyors Bay.

The area now known as Surveyors Bay had a different name in the past. It was once called Camden. However, by the year 1899, the name was changed to Surveyors Bay. It officially became a recognized locality in 1971.
