History of Susúa Alta
Puerto Rico became a part of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened in 1898, when Spain gave Puerto Rico to the U.S. as part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
In 1899, the U.S. government took a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that Susúa Alta and a nearby barrio called Diego Hernández had a combined population of 1,171 people.
