Susan Cohn Lackman was born on July 1, 1948. She was born in a city called Qingdao in China. Her father was an officer in the U.S. Navy. Because of his job, Susan traveled a lot when she was young.

Traveling helped her learn about music and art from many different cultures. She studied music at several universities. She earned degrees from Temple University, The American University, and Rutgers University.

Her Work in Music and Arts

Besides composing and teaching, Susan Cohn Lackman is also involved in managing arts organizations. This is called arts management. She earned a special business degree (an M.B.A.) from Rollins College.

She has held many important roles. She was the manager for a radio station called WPRK-FM. She also helped manage money for the International Alliance for Women in Music. She even led the Festival of Orchestras in Florida. In 2010, she became a director for a group called Sigma Alpha Iota, which supports composers.
