Susan Frykberg (born October 10, 1954 – died April 7, 2023) was a talented composer and sound artist. She created music using electronic sounds, which is called electroacoustic music. She also wrote music for traditional instruments in many different styles.

About Her Life

Susan Frykberg was born in Hastings, New Zealand. She loved music and studied at the University of Canterbury and the University of Otago. She learned from famous composers like John Rimmer and Iannis Xenakis.

In 1979, Susan moved to Canada. She worked as a composer in Toronto. Later, in 1986, she moved to Vancouver to get her master's degree at Simon Fraser University. There, she studied with Barry Truax. After finishing her degree, she taught in the School of Communication at Simon Fraser University for seven years.

Susan was also a guest lecturer at several art and music schools. These included the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and the Emily Carr College in Vancouver. She also taught in Australia at RMIT University and the Box Hill Institute of TAFE in Melbourne. She is remembered by her son.
