Susanna Fogel is an American director, writer, and author. She is well-known for her work on movies and TV shows. For example, she helped write the movie Booksmart (2019). She also wrote and directed the action-comedy film The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018). Susanna has won a DGA Award and been nominated for other big awards like the BAFTA Film Awards and the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Early Life and School
Susanna Fogel was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Her parents were both teachers at Brown University. Her father, Barry S. Fogel, is a doctor who studies the brain. Her mother, Margaret Selkin Fogel, is a psychologist. Susanna graduated from Concord Academy in 1998.
Before her last year of college, she worked for James Schamus. He was making the movie The Hulk at the time. Susanna graduated from Columbia University in 2002. While at Columbia, she helped write the school's 2001 Varsity Show.
Susanna Fogel's Career
Starting in Film and TV
Susanna Fogel and her writing partner, Joni Lefkowitz, first wrote Life Partners as a short play. They later turned it into a movie script. Susanna then directed the film, which was shown at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival.
Susanna also helped create and produce the TV show Chasing Life. This show ran for two seasons on ABC.
Writing and Directing Movies
Susanna Fogel helped write the script for the movie Booksmart. The movie came out in 2019. Even though she was first set to direct it, someone else took over. The script for Booksmart was nominated for important awards. These included the BAFTA Award for Best Original Screenplay.
After some challenges in the movie industry, Susanna decided to write and direct her own film. This was the action-comedy The Spy Who Dumped Me, released in 2018. It starred famous actresses Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon.
Directing TV Shows
Susanna has directed pilot episodes for several popular TV series. She directed the first episode of The Wilds for Amazon. She also directed the pilot for The Flight Attendant on HBO Max, where she was also an Executive Producer.
She has directed episodes for other shows too. These include Gillian Flynn’s Utopia and Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories. The Flight Attendant was nominated for a Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy) award in 2021.
In April 2021, Susanna Fogel won a DGA Award. This award was for her excellent directing work on The Flight Attendant. In July 2021, she was also nominated for an Emmy Award for the same show.
She also helped write the movie The Addams Family 2, which came out in 2021.
More recently, Susanna directed Cat Person (2023). This thriller movie is based on a popular short story. She also directed the 2024 movie Winner. This film tells the story of Reality Winner, an American whistleblower.
