Sutter Hill is a small place in Amador County, California. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Instead, it's managed by the county.
Sutter Hill is located about 7 miles (11.6 kilometers) south of Plymouth. It sits at an elevation of 1,562 feet (476 meters) above sea level. You can find it just north of Jackson along California State Route 49.

The History of Sutter Hill
Sutter Hill has an interesting past, especially in the history of Amador County.
How Amador County Started
In 1854, Sutter Hill was chosen as the place where Amador County was officially created. This means it was an important spot for setting up the local government for the area.
Early Families and Community Life
Around 1860, the Botto family built a large home and property, known as an estate, in Sutter Hill. Their family lived there for five generations, which is a very long time!
Other Italian families also moved to the area. They formed a group called the Italian Benevolent Society of Amador County. A "benevolent society" is a group that helps people, and this one supported local miners. Miners were people who dug for valuable minerals like gold.
This society still holds an annual picnic and parade in the area. It's a fun way for the community to celebrate together.
Sutter Hill's Growth and Development
By 1967, Sutter Hill had grown quite a bit. It became a busy area with many businesses. You could find supermarkets for groceries, lumber centers for building materials, and other general shopping places. The Amador County Airport is also located nearby, which is a small airport for local flights.
