Suzanne Schulting's Journey in Speed Skating

Early Days and First Wins

Suzanne started short track speed skating when she was eight years old. She trained at Thialf, a famous ice rink in Heerenveen, Netherlands. She quickly showed her talent.

In 2016, she won a gold medal. This was at the World Junior Championships in Sofia. She won the 1500-meter race.

Olympic Success and World Records

Suzanne had amazing success at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She earned a bronze medal in the 3000-meter relay race. Then, she won a gold medal in the 1000-meter race. This was a huge moment for Dutch speed skating. She was only 20 years old at the time.

In December 2018, Suzanne was named the Dutch Sportswoman of the Year. This award recognized her incredible achievements.

She continued her winning streak in the 2018–19 season. She became the overall champion at the 2019 European Championships. She also won the overall title at the 2019 World Championships.

The next year, Suzanne defended her title at the 2020 European Championships. The World Championships in Seoul that year were canceled. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2021, Suzanne had an incredible year. She won every single race she entered at the 2021 European Championships. She also won every race at the 2021 World Championships.

Beijing 2022 and Beyond

Suzanne competed for the Netherlands at the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games. She won two gold medals there. She won the 1000-meter race and the 3000-meter relay. In the 1000-meter race, she even set a new world and Olympic record!

She also won a silver medal in the 500-meter race. She set a new Olympic record in the heats for that event. Plus, she earned a bronze medal in the 1500-meter race.

Suzanne did not compete at the 2022 World Championships in Montreal. This was because she tested positive for COVID-19.
