Suzy Snowflake facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Suzy Snowflake is a popular song. It was written by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennett. The famous singer Rosemary Clooney made it well-known in 1951. It was first released on a special type of record called a 78 RPM by Columbia Records.

The song is about a snowflake named Suzy. She acts like a person, which is called "personification." Many people think it is a Christmas song. However, the song does not actually mention Christmas. Instead, its words are for kids and talk about how fun winter can be.

The Suzy Snowflake Cartoon

In 1953, a short cartoon was made about Suzy Snowflake. A company called Centaur Productions created it. The animation style was "stop-motion." This means objects are moved slightly between photos to look like they are moving. Wah Ming Chang was the artist who made the animation.

This cartoon is still shown every year during the Christmas season. You can often see it on WGN-TV in Chicago. It also plays on WJAC-TV in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. It is often shown with other old cartoons. These include "Hardrock, Coco and Joe" and an early version of "Frosty the Snowman".

Other Versions of the Song

Rosemary Clooney recorded the song again later. This was for her 1978 album called Christmas with Rosemary Clooney. Other artists have also sung "Suzy Snowflake." One of the most well-known versions was by the band Soul Coughing in 1997.
