WJAC-TV is a local television station that broadcasts NBC shows in the Johnstown, Altoona, and State College, Pennsylvania areas of Pennsylvania. It is owned by a company called Cox Enterprises. This company also owns another TV station, WPXI-TV, in nearby Pittsburgh.

Discovering WJAC-TV's Past

WJAC-TV first started broadcasting on September 15, 1949. It was originally owned by a business named the Johnstown Automotive Company. This is where the "JAC" in its call sign comes from!

When it first began, WJAC-TV was on channel 13. However, in 1952, it moved to channel 6, which is where it is today. In the 1960s, the Johnstown Automotive Company sold the station to The Tribune-Democrat, a local newspaper. Later, in 1997, the station was sold again to Sunrise Television. This company then became part of Cox Enterprises in the year 2000.
