Swan is a small place in central Smith County, Texas, United States. It is called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Swan is located right on U.S. Highway 69. It's only about three miles north of a bigger city called Tyler.
A Glimpse into Swan's Past
Swan has a history that goes back many years. In 1892, a book called the Handbook of Texas described what Swan was like. Back then, about 200 people lived there.
The community was busy with different jobs. There were ten fruit growers, a blacksmith, and a carpenter. Two doctors helped people stay healthy. A railroad agent managed the train station.
Swan also had three schoolteachers, so kids could get an education. For businesses, there were three cotton gins, which processed cotton. There was also a general store where people could buy many things. A sawmill helped cut wood for building.
Swan Today
Today, Swan is still a quiet community. One popular spot in Swan is a motocross track. Motocross is a type of off-road motorcycle racing. This track has been around for a long time and is a favorite place for riders.
Swan is also part of the larger Tyler Metropolitan Statistical Area. This means it's connected to the bigger economic and social area around the city of Tyler.
