Sy Smith is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She is known for her soulful voice and has worked with many famous artists. Sy has released several albums and appeared on TV shows and in video games.

Sy Smith's Musical Journey
Early Life and Starting Out
Sy Smith grew up in Washington D.C. She started her music career leading a band called "In Tyme." After college, she moved to Los Angeles, California. There, she began singing backup for big stars like Usher, Brandy, and Whitney Houston. She even spent over a year touring with Whitney Houston! Sy also appeared regularly on the TV show Ally McBeal as a singer.
First Albums and New Adventures
In 1999, Sy Smith signed with Hollywood Records. She released her first single, "Gladly," which became a hit on the R&B charts. In 2001, she left Hollywood Records. That same year, she started a monthly music show called B!tchcraft. It featured many talented female singers and comedians. Sy also sang with the British funk group The Brand New Heavies. Her song "Welcome Back (All My Soulmates)" was even nominated for an Emmy award!
In 2005, Sy started her own music company, Psyko! Inc. She then released her second album, The Syberspace Social. This album included songs with other artists like Anthony Hamilton. She also released a special version of her first album, Psykosoul Plus. Sy also acted in a play called If You Don't Believe: A Love Story, which earned her an award nomination.
More Music and TV Appearances
Sy Smith was a backup singer on American Idol. She also toured with Me'Shell NdegeOcello. In 2008, she released her third album, Conflict. The song "Fly Away With Me" from this album became very popular.
Sy also sang with jazz trumpeter Chris Botti at his concerts. You can even see her on his concert DVD! If you play video games, you might know her voice as Aisha in the Saints Row game series. She recorded several songs for the games.
New Projects and Collaborations
In 2010, Sy Smith released a collection of her favorite songs called SyberSelects. She also announced plans to make a jazz album. In 2011, she toured with The Foreign Exchange.
Her fourth album, Fast and Curious, came out in 2012. She continued to perform with Chris Botti. Sy also sang with the famous French musician Johnny Hallyday. In 2015, she released her own version of Janet Jackson's song "When I Think of You."
Recent Albums
Sy Smith's fifth album, “Sometimes a Rose Will Grow in Concrete,” was released in 2018. Her sixth album, “Until We Meet Again,” came out in 2024. This album featured collaborations with artists like Chris Botti and Sheila E..
