Mohd Syafiq bin Mohd Yusof (born on 7 December 1992) is a talented Malaysian filmmaker and visual effects artist. He is the younger brother of actor and director Syamsul Yusof, and the son of famous actor and director Yusof Haslam. Syafiq started his career by making short films. His first feature film, SAM: Saya Amat Mencintaimu, came out in 2012. Since then, he has directed many successful movies.

Early Life and Family Background

Syafiq Yusof was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 7 December 1992. He grew up in a family deeply involved in the film industry. His father, Yusof Haslam, is a well-known actor, director, and producer.

Syafiq's older brother, Syamsul Yusof, is also a successful actor and film director. Syamsul is famous for directing popular horror films like Munafik and Munafik 2. He also directed Mat Kilau (film), which became the highest-earning Malaysian film ever. Syafiq also has cousins who are actors, showing how much filmmaking runs in his family!

Syafiq's Journey in Filmmaking

Syafiq began his career by creating short films. His first big movie as a director was SAM: Saya Amat Mencintaimu. This film, starring Shaheizy Sam and Lisa Surihani, was released on 19 August 2012. In the same year, Syafiq also helped direct Evolusi KL Drift: The Series. This TV show was based on a movie directed by his brother, Syamsul.

Starting Viper Studios

On 11 January 2013, Syafiq and two friends started their own company called Viper Studios. This company focuses on making films, creating cool visual effects, and doing post-production work. Syafiq became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of this studio.

Directing Popular Movies

A year later, Syafiq directed Abang Long Fadil, a spin-off from the 2011 movie KL Gangster. The film, starring Zizan Razak, was released in May 2014 and became very popular.

His third movie, Villa Nabila, came out in January 2015. This was a horror documentary based on a real-life incident.

Syafiq then directed his fifth film, a mystery science fiction movie called Desolasi. It was released on 8 December 2016. The film starred his brother Syamsul as Aiman, a visual artist who finds himself stuck in another dimension. Syafiq used many special effects to make Kuala Lumpur look empty in the movie.

His seventh film, Abang Long Fadil 2, was released on 24 August 2017. This movie was a huge success, earning over RM 18.15 million! This made it one of the highest-grossing Malaysian films at the time.

On 8 March 2018, Syafiq's action film KL Special Force was released. It starred Rosyam Nor, Fattah Amin, and his brother Syamsul. This film also broke records in the Malaysian film industry, earning over RM12.1 million.

His most recent film, a psychological horror movie called Misteri Dilaila, was released on 21 February 2019. It was filmed in Fraser's Hill, Pahang.

In September 2019, it was announced that Syafiq would direct Polis Evo 3. This movie, starring Shaheizy Sam and Zizan Razak, was released in 2023 and was also a big hit. He also directed Sheriff: Narko Integriti which was released in 2024.

Personal Life

Syafiq married his long-time girlfriend, Aisyeah Zainal, on 5 April 2014. They have three children: two daughters named Nuur Jannah (born 2016) and Nuur Nusaybah (born 2018), and a son named Muhamad Nu'Aiman (born 2023).

Syafiq Yusof has received several awards for his work in filmmaking:

• In 2013, he won the Most Promising Director award at the 25th Malaysian Film Festival for his film SAM.
• In 2017, he won Best Director at the 2017 PROFIMA Awards for Desolasi.
• Also in 2017, his film Abang Long Fadil 2 won the Box Office Film award at the 29th Malaysian Film Festival, showing its huge popularity.
