Sycamore is a small community located in northern Montgomery County, Kansas, in the United States. It's known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's an area identified by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes. However, it is not officially a city or town with its own local government.
As of the 2020 census, about 70 people lived in Sycamore. You can find it along U.S. Route 75, just north of the city of Independence.
Sycamore's Early Days
Sycamore began when a railroad line was first built through this area. The community grew around this new transportation route.
The local post office was first set up in 1887. It was originally called "Lay." Later, in 1896, its name was changed to Sycamore. Today, it still has a post office with the ZIP code 67363.
