Saving the Gymnasium
In 2003, there was a big effort to save the gymnasium from the closed Brunswick Secondary College campus. Staff, parents, and students from Sydney Road Community School were very involved. They even stayed at the site for several weeks to protect it. This was similar to a successful campaign that saved Fitzroy High School. Their hard work paid off! The gymnasium was saved and reopened in April 2005 after being updated.

The school's building is very important. It is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. This means it is recognized as a place with special historical or cultural value in Victoria.
