The Austrocordulia leonardi is a special kind of dragonfly often called the Sydney hawk. It belongs to the Austrocorduliidae family. This dragonfly is medium-sized and has cool black and yellow colors.

It lives only in one place: the Sydney Basin in New South Wales, Australia. This means it is endemic to that area. You can find these dragonflies near rivers and dams, which are their natural habitats.

Sadly, the Sydney hawk dragonfly is facing a threat. Its home, or habitat, is being lost. This is called habitat loss.

Sydney Hawk Dragonfly Facts

The Sydney hawk is known for its striking black and yellow patterns. It's a quick flyer, just like other dragonflies. Dragonflies are amazing insects that have been around for millions of years!

Where the Sydney Hawk Lives

This unique dragonfly lives only in the Sydney Basin. This area includes parts of Sydney and its surroundings. It likes to be near fresh water, like rivers and dams, where it can hunt for smaller insects.

Why the Sydney Hawk Needs Help

The biggest problem for the Sydney hawk is that its natural homes are disappearing. When rivers are changed or dams are built in new ways, it can make it hard for these dragonflies to survive. Protecting their habitats is very important to keep them safe.
