Syed Jahangir (born January 2, 1935 – died December 29, 2018) was a famous painter from Bangladesh. He was known for his beautiful artworks. In 1985, he received a very important award called the Ekushey Padak from the Government of Bangladesh. This award is given to people who have made great contributions to their country. Syed Jahangir also led the Arts Faculty at Shilpakala Academy in 1977. Some of his well-known paintings are Attmar Ujjibon, Ullas, Dhoni, Ojana-Oneshya, and Osoni-Sangket.
Syed Jahangir's Life and Art Journey
Syed Jahangir was born in Satkhira on January 2, 1935. He studied Fine Arts at the Government Art Institute of Arts and Crafts. This school is now known as the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.
He painted for more than 55 years! During this time, he created over 9,000 artworks. These included paintings made with oil, watercolors, and other mixed materials.
Throughout his career, Jahangir showed his art in many places. He had 35 solo exhibitions, which means his art was the only art shown. He also participated in one group exhibition with other artists. For example, on February 22, 2007, some of his paintings were shown at the Chitrak Gallery. Other famous painters like Nitun Kundu and Rafiqun Nabi also had their art there.
