Syed Noor is a famous Pakistani film director who works in Lahore. He is also a producer, writer, and actor. His full name is Syed Ghulam Mohyuddin Noor. He is well-known for making many successful films in Pakistan.

Early Life and Learning
Syed Ghulam Mohyuddin Noor was born on February 21, 1950. His birthplace was Lahore, in Punjab, Pakistan. He went to school in Lahore. Later, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He studied at Government Dyal Singh College.
His Film Career
Syed Noor started his journey in the film world in 1970. He first worked as an assistant to director S. Suleman. He helped S. Suleman make 18 movies. This experience taught him a lot about filmmaking.
As a Writer
After helping as an assistant, Syed Noor wrote his first movie script. This was for the film Society Girl in 1976. This movie was very popular and was considered one of the best films that year. Because of its success, Syed Noor became a top writer in the Pakistani film industry. He wrote for many famous directors.
From 1976 to 1992, Syed Noor wrote about 250 films. He wrote scripts in both Urdu and Punjabi languages. As a writer, he won many important awards. These included the National Award and the Nigar Award. People also offered him acting roles. However, he always wanted to direct movies. So, he turned down the acting offers.
As a Director
In 1993, Syed Noor directed his first movie, Qasam. This film was a big hit at the box office. At that time, Punjabi films were very popular in Pakistan. Syed Noor wanted to bring back Urdu cinema. His next two films, Jeeva (1995) and Sargam (1995), helped him achieve this goal.
Syed Noor also helped many new actors start their careers. These actors later became very successful. As Urdu movies became popular again, Punjabi films started to be made less often. After the death of Punjabi film star Sultan Rahi, Syed Noor decided to make Punjabi films again. His first Punjabi movie as a director was Choorian (1998). This film was a huge success and is still one of the most popular Pakistani films ever. Another Punjabi film he directed, Majajan (2006), also ran in cinemas for a very long time.
Teaching Filmmaking
Syed Noor wanted to share his knowledge with new filmmakers. He started Paragon Studios and the Paragon Academy of Performing Arts. He also worked with the Mass Communications department at Punjab University. There, he began teaching film as a subject. Around this time, new movie theaters called multiplexes were built in Pakistan. Films also started to be made digitally. These changes gave new filmmakers many exciting chances to create movies.
Awards and Honors
Syed Noor has written almost 300 films and directed 55 films. He has won more than 10 National Awards and many other honors. In 2013, the Pakistani government gave him a very special award. This was the "Sitara-i-Imtiaz" (Star of Excellence) Award. It is one of the highest awards a civilian can receive in Pakistan.
