Early Life and Family
Sylvester W. Osborn was born in Delaware County, New York. We don't know the exact year he was born. In 1835, he married Julia M. Gardner. They had four children together. Two of their family members also became part of the Wisconsin State Assembly:
- His daughter, Sarah, married Philo A. Orton, who later joined the Assembly.
- His son, Charles F. Osborn, also became a member of the Assembly.
Moving to Wisconsin and War Service
In 1851, Osborn moved to Darlington, Wisconsin. During the American Civil War, he bravely served in the Union Army. He was a part of the 16th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He rose to the rank of captain. Sylvester W. Osborn passed away on November 4, 1903.
Political Career
Sylvester W. Osborn was a member of the Republican Party. In 1865, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly. This meant he helped make laws for the state. Later, in 1877, he was given the job of Postmaster for Darlington. A Postmaster is in charge of a local post office.
