Early Career in the Netherlands
Sylvie Meis was born in Breda, Netherlands. She has some family roots from the Dutch East Indies. She finished her studies at the University of West Brabant. When she was 18, Sylvie decided she wanted to be a model. She got many jobs through casting agencies.
Later, she became interested in television. She became very popular working for FoxKids and the music channel TMF. She hosted many events at TMF. This included presenting the yearly TMF-awards. She also interviewed famous international singers like Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. Sylvie also appeared in music videos. She was in the Dutch TV show Costa. She even launched her own jewelry line called Pure by Sylvie. In 2008, she hosted the FIFA World Player of the Year award show.
Moving to Germany and Becoming a TV Star
Sylvie and her husband moved to Germany. Her husband, Rafael van der Vaart, started playing for the football club Hamburger SV. Later, they moved to Spain when he joined Real Madrid.
From 2008 to 2011, Sylvie was a judge on Das Supertalent. This is the German version of the famous Got Talent show. In 2010, she joined the German dance competition Let's Dance as a participant. On April 17, 2010, Sylvie stepped in as a judge for the final of Deutschland sucht den Superstar. The usual judge could not make it due to flight problems.

Sylvie Meis has a mixed background. Her father is Dutch-Indonesian, and her mother is Belgian.
She started a relationship with football player Rafael van der Vaart in 2003. They got married on June 10, 2005. Their son, Damián Rafael, was born on May 28, 2006. Some media called them the "new Beckhams." However, they said they just wanted to live a normal life. Their son Damián joined the Ajax youth football team in September 2023.
In June 2009, Sylvie shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery in May 2009. After her surgery, she completed chemotherapy. She has been cancer-free ever since. In 2009, Real Madrid wanted to sell Rafael van der Vaart. But he chose to stay in Madrid. This was so Sylvie could continue her cancer treatments there.
Sylvie and Rafael separated in January 2013. Their divorce was finalized in December 2013. She later got engaged to Charbel Aouad in April 2017, but they separated in October 2017. From 2020 to June 2023, Sylvie Meis was married to Niclas Castello.
