Sylvie Françoise Meis, born on April 13, 1978, is a well-known television personality and model from the Netherlands. She has become very famous, especially in Germany, for her work on TV shows and as a model. For some time, she was also known as Sylvie van der Vaart.

Sylvie's Career Journey

Starting in the Netherlands

Sylvie Meis was born in Breda, Netherlands. She has some Dutch East Indies heritage. After finishing her studies at the University of West Brabant, she decided to become a model at age 18. She got many jobs through casting agencies.

Later, she became interested in television. She gained popularity by working for FoxKids and the music channel TMF. She hosted many events for TMF, like the yearly TMF-awards. She also interviewed famous international artists such as Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. Sylvie also appeared in music videos and the Dutch TV series Costa. She even launched her own jewelry line called Pure by Sylvie. In 2008, she hosted the FIFA World Player of the Year award ceremony.

In 2003, Sylvie started a relationship with AFC Ajax footballer Rafael van der Vaart. They became a very famous couple in the Netherlands. Their wedding on June 10, 2005, was even shown live on Dutch TV. Sylvie then took Rafael's last name, van der Vaart.

Moving to Germany

Sylvie and Rafael moved to Germany when he started playing for the football club Hamburger SV. Later, in 2008, they moved to Spain when Rafael joined Real Madrid C.F..

From 2008 to 2011, Sylvie was a judge on Das Supertalent. This is the German version of the popular Got Talent show. In 2010, she also took part in the third season of Let's Dance, which is like the show Strictly Come Dancing.

On April 17, 2010, Sylvie filled in as a judge for the final of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Germany Seeks the Superstar). This was because the usual judge was stuck in Los Angeles. From 2011 to 2017, Sylvie hosted Let's Dance with Daniel Hartwich. In 2018, she returned to Das Supertalent as a judge.

Sylvie Meis is one of the most successful Dutch personalities working in Germany. She followed in the footsteps of other famous Dutch entertainers like Linda de Mol.

Sylvie Meis has a mixed background. Her father is Dutch-Indonesian, and her mother is Belgian.

She was in a relationship with footballer Rafael van der Vaart starting in 2003. They got married on June 10, 2005. Their son, Damián Rafael, was born on May 28, 2006. Some media called them the "new Beckhams," but they preferred to live a normal life. Their son Damián joined the AFC Ajax youth team in September 2023.

In June 2009, Sylvie shared that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. She had surgery in May 2009 and later finished her treatments. She has been cancer-free since then. In 2010, Sylvie and Rafael separated, and their divorce was finalized in December 2013.

Sylvie was engaged to Charbel Aouad in April 2017, but they separated later that year. From 2020 to June 2023, Sylvie was married to Niclas Castello.

Sylvie is fluent in English, Dutch, and German.
