The Templo Libertad is a special synagogue located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is also known as the Sinagoga de la Congregación Israelita Argentina. This synagogue follows the Reform style of Judaism. You can find it on Libertad street, which is close to the famous Teatro Colón. The Templo Libertad is home to the Congregación Israelita de la República Argentina. It also has a museum about Jewish history. This congregation is the oldest Jewish community in Argentina.
History of Templo Libertad
Building the Synagogue
The first stone for the Templo Libertad was placed in 1897. Building the synagogue took a long time, about 35 years! It was finally finished and opened in 1932. Two engineers, Alejandro Enquin and Eugenio Gantner, led the building project.
Architectural Style
The design of the Templo Libertad was inspired by German synagogues. These synagogues were built in the mid-1800s. The building is quite large. It can hold up to 700 people inside.
