The TC Energy Center is a very tall building, also known as a skyscraper, located in downtown Houston, Texas. It's a great example of postmodern architecture, which is a style that mixes old and new ideas in building design. This building was finished in October 1983.
It was designed by the famous architects Johnson/Burgee Architects. The building looks a bit like the old canal houses you might see in The Netherlands. It has three parts that step back as they go up. Each part has a roof that slopes steeply, topped with pointy spires. The building was built by Hines Interests. Today, it is owned by M-M Properties and a part of the General Electric Pension Trust.
The building has a special banking center in a separate building. This was built separately because of some construction challenges. The main lobby inside is three stories tall. There are 32 elevators for people, and each one is decorated with beautiful wood panels. These woods include Birdseye Maple, Macassar Ebony, and Italian Willow. The lobby also has an art gallery that plans to show different art exhibits.
In 2019, the building was renamed the TC Energy Center. This is because TC Energy, a big company, made it their main office in the United States. They are the biggest company renting space in the building.
About the Building
The TC Energy Center is 56 stories tall. This makes it one of the tallest buildings in the United States. It is also the seventh tallest building in Texas.
A unique part of the building is in its northeast corner. There was an old Western Union building already on the site. It was too hard to move all the telegraph cables from that old building. So, the new skyscraper was built right over it! The old Western Union building is now a part of the new, larger structure. The outside of the building is made from red Swedish granite. This stone gives the building a distinct "dark pink" color.
