TaQuita started writing music and performing when she was very young. Her first time singing for an audience was at a family party when she was just two years old. When she wrote songs, she also drew pictures to go with them. Her talent was noticed early on. In kindergarten, she was allowed to sing over the school's public address system.
At age 10, TaQuita joined a girl group called Diamonds in the Rough. She also loved sports and was active in them at Denby Tech High School. She ran cross-country, joined the cheer team, and was part of the marching band. She also participated in JROTC, which teaches leadership skills.

MTV later decided to create a separate show just for TaQuita. It was called The TaQuita & Kaui Show. Before filming this new show, TaQuita sang as a main performer with the Velocity group. They performed at Detroit's Greektown Casino. She even opened for big stars like Busta Rhymes and India.Arie.
"The TaQuita & Kaui Show" started airing in 2007. The show followed TaQuita and her friend Kaui Beamer. Kaui was also a co-star from Making the Band.
