Tabi Bonney is a rapper who was born in Togo, a country in West Africa. He grew up in Washington, D.C., in the United States. His father, Itadi Bonney, was a well-known afro-funk musician in the 1970s. Tabi became famous in the Washington D.C. area with his songs "The Pocket" and "Doin It." The song "Doin It" also featured another artist named Raheem DeVaughn.

Tabi Bonney also started his own clothing line called Bonney Runway. He has directed and produced music videos for other artists too. One of these artists is his friend Wale, who is also a rapper from D.C.

Tabi Bonney's Early Life

Tabi Bonney was born in Lomé, the capital city of Togo. His father, Itadi Bonney, was a musician, and his mother, Jo, was a teacher from Washington, D.C. His mom was working in Lomé with the Peace Corps.

Because of political problems in Togo, Tabi's family had to leave the country. They eventually moved and settled in Washington, D.C.

School and Career Choices

Tabi's parents did not want him to become a musician like his father. They wanted him to go to college. So, Tabi went to Florida A&M University to study pre-med. He even earned a Master's degree in biology. He planned to become a doctor.

However, Tabi realized that being a doctor was not what he truly wanted to do. After college, he worked as a science teacher at Roosevelt High School in Petworth, Washington, D.C., for two years.

Music Journey

While Tabi was in college, he and his friend Haziq Ali started a music group called Organized Rhyme. Their group got to open shows for big artists like LL Cool J, Cam'ron, and OutKast.

In 2006, Tabi Bonney had a big hit in his region with the song "The Pocket." This was his first single from his album called A Fly Guy's Theme.

In 2011, Tabi released his fourth studio album, The Summer Years. This album included songs that used samples from his father's music. It also featured other artists like Terri Walker and Murs.
