Tadeusz Ślusarski (born May 19, 1950, in Żary – died August 17, 1998, near Ostromice) was a famous Polish pole vault athlete. He was an Olympic champion, winning a gold medal in pole vault at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, coming in second to another Polish champion, Władysław Kozakiewicz.
A Polish Pole Vault Champion
Tadeusz Ślusarski was a talented athlete from Poland. He specialized in the pole vault, a sport where athletes use a long, flexible pole to jump over a high bar. He became one of the best pole vaulters in the world during his time.
Olympic Gold and Silver
Tadeusz Ślusarski achieved his greatest success at the Olympic Games.
- In 1976, he competed in the Montreal Olympics in Canada. He performed incredibly well and won the gold medal in pole vault. This made him an Olympic champion!
- Four years later, in 1980, he went to the Moscow Olympics. He once again showed his amazing skills, earning a silver medal. He finished just behind his fellow Polish athlete, Władysław Kozakiewicz.

- He was a two-time champion at the European Indoor Championships. He won gold medals in 1974 in Gothenburg, Sweden, and again in 1978 in Milan, Italy.
- In 1977, he won a silver medal at the Universiade in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Universiade is a major international sports event for university athletes.
- He also competed in the first-ever World Championships in Athletics in Helsinki, Finland, in 1983, where he placed fourth.
A Sad Farewell
Sadly, Tadeusz Ślusarski passed away in a car crash on August 17, 1998. He was traveling with another Polish Olympic gold medalist, Władysław Komar, who was a famous shot put athlete. They both died in the accident near Ostromice, Poland.
