The Tafwyl festival is a super fun event held every year in Cardiff, Wales. It celebrates the Welsh language and culture. The main part of the festival is a two-day outdoor party. It usually takes place at the amazing Cardiff Castle.

What is Tafwyl?

Tafwyl started in 2006 as a small local event. It was first held outside a pub called Mochyn Du. Since 2012, it has grown much bigger. The festival now takes place in large, famous spots. These include Cardiff Castle and Bute Park. In 2017, it was held in Llandaff Fields. Tafwyl is part of a group of summer events. These events are known as Cardiff Festivals.

How the Festival Works

Tafwyl is now split into two main parts. First, there is "Tafwyl Week." This is a seven-day mini-festival. It happens the week before the main event. Tafwyl Week shows off the best of Welsh culture. It has many smaller events and activities.

The second part is "Tafwyl Fair." This is the big weekend festival. It is the main event. At the fair, you can find many exciting things. There are food stalls with tasty street food. You can also find special drinks. One unique drink is 'Cwrw Tafwyl' beer.

Festival Fun and Music

The main Tafwyl festival is completely free to enter. This means everyone can come and enjoy it! In 2017, a huge number of people visited. About 38,000 visitors came to the festival. At one time, over 8,000 people were in the castle grounds. This was more than the castle's usual limit of 5,000 people. In 2014, the festival attracted 18,717 visitors.

Many cool bands and performers have played at Tafwyl. Some famous Welsh artists include Bryn Fôn and Candelas. Other popular acts are Elin Fflur and Geraint Jarman. You might also see Y Niwl, Meic Stevens, Sŵnami, and Yws Gwynedd. The festival is a great place to hear Welsh music.
