The Taifa of Arcos was a small Muslim kingdom in medieval Spain. It was ruled by a group of people called the Berbers. This kingdom existed at two different times.
First, it was independent from 1011 to 1068. Then, from 1068 to 1091, a stronger kingdom called the Taifa of Seville took control. Later, from 1101 to 1143, another group called the Almoravids ruled it.
The Taifa of Arcos became independent again from 1143 to 1145. But in 1145, a powerful empire called the Almohad Caliphate conquered it for good.

Founding the Kingdom
The Banū Jizrūn family started the Taifa of Arcos. They were part of the Zenata Berber group. Their leader, Muhammad I, took control of the Sidonia region. He removed the governor who worked for the Umayyad Caliphate.
In 1011, the Banū Jizrūn family declared their independence. This is how the Taifa of Arcos began. Its main city was Arcos de la Frontera, which is still a city today.
Rulers of Arcos
The Taifa of Arcos had different rulers over time. These leaders were called Emirs.

- Under the Taifa of Seville: From 1068 or 1069 to 1091.
- Under the Almoravids: From 1101 to 1143.
Idrisid Family Rulers

- Abu'l-Qasim Ahyal: Ruled from 1143 to 1145. He also ruled in a nearby city called Jerez.
