The Taifa of Purchena was a small Moorish kingdom in medieval Spain. It was centered in the town of Purchena. This kingdom existed for a short time, from 1145 to 1150. A "taifa" was a small independent Muslim state. These states appeared in Spain after the big Caliphate of Córdoba broke apart.
The Kingdom of Purchena
The Taifa of Purchena was one of many small kingdoms. These kingdoms formed in what is now Spain and Portugal. This happened during the Middle Ages. They were ruled by Muslim leaders. The Taifa of Purchena was located in a region called Al-Andalus. This was the Muslim-controlled part of the Iberian Peninsula.
Who Ruled Purchena?
The ruler of the Taifa of Purchena was called an Emir. An Emir is a type of prince or commander. The only known Emir from the Miqdamid family was Ibn Miqdam. He ruled the kingdom from 1145 to 1150.
End of the Kingdom
The Taifa of Purchena did not last very long. In 1150, it was taken over by the Taifa of Murcia. Murcia was a larger and more powerful taifa kingdom. This meant the independent rule of Purchena came to an end. It became part of the larger Murcian territory.
