The Taifa of Ronda (Arabic: طائفة رندة) was a small Muslim kingdom. It was located in a part of Moorish al-Andalus, which is now southern Spain. This kingdom existed from the year 1039 to 1065. A family from the Berber tribe called Banu Ifran ruled it. Their home was in North Africa. The main city and capital of this kingdom was Ronda. The word "taifa" means a small, independent Muslim kingdom. These kingdoms appeared in Spain after the big Caliphate of Córdoba broke apart. The Taifa of Ronda was one of these smaller states. It was important for trade and culture in its region.
Who Ruled Ronda?
The rulers of the Taifa of Ronda were from the Banu Ifran family. They were a powerful Berber tribe. They came from North Africa. This family established their own kingdom in Ronda. They ruled it for about 26 years.
Important Rulers
The Banu Ifran family had several leaders during their time. These leaders were called Emirs. Here are some of the main Emirs who ruled the Taifa of Ronda:
- Abu Nour: He ruled from 1039 or 1040 until 1053 or 1054.
- Badis ibn Hilal: He was in charge from 1053 or 1054 to 1057 or 1058.
- Abu Nur Hilal: He became ruler again in 1057 or 1058 for a short time.
- Abu Nars Fatuh: He ruled from 1057 or 1058 until 1065.
The End of the Kingdom
In 1065, the Taifa of Ronda was conquered. It was taken over by a larger and more powerful kingdom. This was the Taifa of Seville. The Taifa of Seville was led by a ruler named Abbad II al-Mu'tadid. After this, Ronda became part of the Seville kingdom.
