The Taifa of Segura (which means "Kingdom of Segura" in Arabic) was a small, independent kingdom that existed in what is now Spain. It was a taifa, which was a Muslim-ruled state during the Middle Ages. This kingdom was very short-lived, lasting only from 1147 to around 1150.
What Was the Taifa of Segura?
During the Middle Ages, parts of Spain were ruled by Muslim leaders. When a large Muslim empire broke apart, many smaller kingdoms formed. These small kingdoms were called taifas. The Taifa of Segura was one of these independent states. It was located in a region that is now part of Spain. Its capital city was Segura.
Who Ruled Segura?
The only known ruler of the Taifa of Segura was a person named Ibn Hamušk. He became the leader in 1147. We don't know exactly how long he ruled. These rulers were like kings of their small kingdoms. They made decisions for their people.
How Did the Taifa End?
The Taifa of Segura did not last very long. Around the year 1150, it was taken over by a larger and more powerful kingdom. This larger kingdom was the Taifa of Murcia. When one taifa was "absorbed" by another, it meant it became part of that larger kingdom. So, Segura lost its independence and became part of Murcia.
