Elisapie Isaac, known simply as Elisapie, is a talented Inuk musician, filmmaker, and actress from Canada. She was born in 1977. Elisapie is also a broadcaster and an activist. She grew up in Salluit, a community in Nunavik, Quebec. In 1999, she moved to Montreal to study communications. She wanted to become a journalist.

Elisapie's Early Life and Music Journey
Elisapie was born in Salluit, Quebec. Her mother was Inuk, and her father was from Newfoundland. When she was just twelve years old, she started performing. She sang with a band called Sugluk. Her uncle, George Kakayuk, was also a member of this band.
Forming the Band Taima
In the early 2000s, Elisapie teamed up with musician Alain Auger. They formed a music group called Taima. In Inuktitut, Taima means "that's all" or "it is done." Their only album, also called Taima, was a big success. It won the Aboriginal Recording of the Year in 2005. In 2006, Elisapie also wrote songs for the film The White Planet.
Starting a Solo Music Career
Elisapie released her first solo album in 2010. It was called There Will Be Stars. This album featured songs in English, French, and Inuktitut. Her second solo album, Travelling Love, came out in October 2012. She released it under the name Elisapie.
Awards and Nominations for Her Music
Elisapie has received many awards and nominations for her music. In 2019, her album The Ballad of the Runaway Girl was nominated for the Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2019. This album also included songs in English, French, and Inuktitut. It was also considered for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize.
In 2023, Elisapie released her album Inuktitut. This album is special because it features ten classic pop and rock songs. But they are all sung in the Inuktitut language! This album won the award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2024. It also won Best Adult Alternative Album at the Juno Awards of 2025. The album was also a finalist for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize.
On June 13, 2024, Canada Post honored Elisapie. They released a special stamp dedicated to her. This stamp is part of a series called "Indigenous Leaders." It celebrates her important contributions to culture.

Filmmaking: If the Weather Permits
In 2003, Elisapie directed a documentary film. It was called If the Weather Permits. The film was made by the National Film Board of Canada. It was filmed in Kangiqsujuaq, a community in northern Quebec. The documentary shows how the lives of Inuit people in Nunavik are changing.
