Juno Award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year facts for kids
The Juno Award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year is a special music award given out every year in Canada. It's part of the Juno Awards, which are like Canada's biggest music awards show! This award celebrates amazing music made by Indigenous Canadian artists. These artists create music in modern styles, like pop, rock, hip-hop, or electronic music.
This award was first announced in 2021 and given out for the very first time at the Juno Awards of 2022. It's a new way to recognize the diverse talents of Indigenous musicians.
Before 2022, there was only one award for all Indigenous artists, called the Indigenous Artist or Group of the Year. Now, the Junos have two separate awards to better celebrate different kinds of Indigenous music: this one for contemporary (modern) styles, and another for Traditional Indigenous Artist of the Year.
