About Digging Roots
How They Started
Digging Roots began making music in 2004. Their first album, Seeds, came out in 2006. This album was nominated for a Juno Award. A Juno Award is one of the biggest music awards in Canada!
Winning Awards
In 2009, they released their album We Are.... This album helped them win the Juno Award for Aboriginal Album of the Year in 2010. They also won the Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Group in 2007.
ShoShona Kish received the Womex Professional Excellence Award in 2018. Raven Kanatakta won the Cobalt Award in 2016. These awards show how talented they are!
Performing Live
Digging Roots loves to perform for their fans. In 2016, they played at the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival and the Ottawa Jazz Festival. In 2017, they performed at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa.
Starting a Record Label
In 2021, ShoShona Kish teamed up with singer-songwriter Amanda Rheaume. They started a record label called Ishkōdé Records. This label helps release music by artists like Digging Roots, Amanda Rheaume, Aysanabee, and Morgan Toney.
