Morgan's Musical Journey
Morgan Toney started his music career as a drummer. Later, in the late 2010s, he began learning to play the fiddle. This instrument became a big part of his sound. He met another singer-songwriter named Keith Mullins. They planned to record an album together. However, their plans were put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, Morgan Toney made his first big appearance. He performed at the Celtic Colours festival. This was a special online version of the festival. He even shared the stage with famous fiddler Ashley MacIsaac.
First Album and Awards
After the pandemic delayed their plans, Morgan and Keith decided to get help from fans. They started a GoFundMe page. This helped them raise money to record Morgan's first album. The album was called First Flight. It was released on its own in 2021.
First Flight was a big success. Morgan Toney was nominated for an award in 2022. He was recognized for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year at the 17th Canadian Folk Music Awards. Later, in March 2022, First Flight was released again. This time, it was put out by Ishkōdé Records. This is a record label run by Amanda Rheaume and ShoShonna Kish.

Morgan Toney continued to create new music. His 2023 album is called Resilience. This album also received a major honor. It was nominated for a Juno Award in 2024. The nomination was for Traditional Roots Album of the Year. This shows how much his unique blend of Mi'kmaq and Celtic music is loved.
