Morgan Toney is a talented musician from Nova Scotia, Canada. He is a Mi'kmaq artist, which means he is a member of one of Canada's Indigenous peoples. Morgan Toney is known for his unique music style. He blends traditional Mi'kmaq music with Celtic folk sounds. He is a singer, songwriter, and plays the fiddle. Morgan is part of the Wagmatcook First Nation community.

Morgan's Musical Journey

Morgan Toney started his music path as a drummer. Later, in the late 2010s, he began learning to play the fiddle. This instrument became a big part of his music. He met another singer-songwriter named Keith Mullins. They planned to record an album together. However, their plans were paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

First Performances and Album

Even with the pandemic, Morgan Toney made his first big appearance. He performed at the virtual Celtic Colours festival in 2020. He even shared the stage with famous fiddler Ashley MacIsaac.

To help record his first album, Morgan and Keith started a GoFundMe page. This allowed fans to donate money to support the project. Morgan's first album was called First Flight. It was released on its own in 2021.

Awards and Recognition

Morgan Toney's music quickly gained attention. In 2022, he was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. This was for the Indigenous Songwriter of the Year category. His album First Flight was re-released in March 2022. It was put out by Ishkōdé Records. This record label is owned by Indigenous artists Amanda Rheaume and ShoShonna Kish.

His album Resilience, released in 2023, also received a major honor. It was nominated for a Juno Award. This nomination was for Traditional Roots Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2024. The Juno Awards are Canada's biggest music awards.
