Canadian Folk Music Award for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year facts for kids
The Canadian Folk Music Award for Indigenous Songwriter of the Year is a special award in Canada. It celebrates the best songwriting by artists who are First Nations or Inuit. These are two of the main Indigenous groups in Canada.
This award is unique because it looks at all the songs on an entire album, not just one song. It honors the overall songwriting talent of the artist for that album. There are also similar awards for songwriters who write in English or French.
The award used to be called the "Aboriginal Songwriter of the Year." In 2018, its name was changed to "Indigenous Songwriter of the Year." This change reflects a more modern and respectful way to talk about these communities.
