Laura Vinson (born May 23, 1947) is a talented Canadian singer and songwriter. She is known for her folk and country music. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was a popular country singer. More recently, she has focused on music that celebrates First Nations and Métis cultures.

Laura Vinson has a rich family background. Her family includes French, English, Cree, Iroquois, and Cherokee roots. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Brule.
Laura is a direct descendant of Tête Jaune. He was a fur trader who was important in the early history of Western Canada.
Her Music Journey
Laura Vinson started her music career singing folk music. She also performed rock music with a band called Bitter Suite. In 1973, she began singing country music with her band, Red Wyng.
She released many albums with Royalty Records. Some of her hit songs include "Sweet Mountain Music" and "Sun Always Shines." Other popular songs were "Mes amis O Canada," "Crazy Heart," and "In My Dreams."
In 1989, Laura performed on a TV show called Indian Time. This show was about Indigenous music. After this, she started making music that showed her Indigenous heritage even more. She released several albums with her band, Free Spirit. These albums featured First Nations and Métis music.
