Shawnee Kish is a talented singer and songwriter from Canada. She is a member of the Mohawk people, one of the First Nations groups in North America. Shawnee Kish is well-known for her music and has been nominated for a Juno Award, which is a big music award in Canada. She was nominated for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year for her first music collection, called an EP.

Shawnee Kish's Early Music Journey

Shawnee Kish grew up in Welland, Ontario. From a young age, she loved to sing. She started her music journey by singing songs by the famous Canadian artist Shania Twain. As an adult, Shawnee Kish moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where she continues to make music.

Rising to Stardom

In 2020, Shawnee Kish won a big music contest called Searchlight, organized by CBC Music. This helped her get noticed in the music world. The next year, in 2021, she was chosen for the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class program. This program helps new artists grow and develop their skills.

Her first collection of songs, known as an EP (which stands for Extended Play, like a mini-album), came out in 2021. In the same year, she created a special musical piece called "Music Is My Medicine." This piece was performed by the National Arts Centre Orchestra, a group of musicians who play classical music. It was part of a web series called Undisrupted on CBC Gem.

Recent Music and Awards

In 2023, Shawnee Kish joined many other artists to record a song called "What I Wouldn't Do" by Serena Ryder. This song was released to help a good cause: it raised money for Kids Help Phone's Feel Out Loud campaign. This campaign helps young people with their mental health.

Also in 2023, Shawnee Kish released her album titled Revolution. This album was very successful and earned her two more nominations for the Juno Awards of 2024. She was nominated for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year again, and also for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.
