Takayuki Nishigaya (西ヶ谷 隆之, Nishigaya Takayuki, born 12 May 1973) is a Japanese professional football manager. He used to be a football player. He was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on May 12, 1973.

Playing Football: Takayuki Nishigaya's Career
Takayuki Nishigaya started his football journey after finishing university. In 1996, he joined J1 League club Nagoya Grampus Eight. He often played as a central defender.
Moving Between Clubs
In 1998, Nishigaya moved to Avispa Fukuoka. There, he became a regular player, often playing as a left-back. The next year, in 1999, he joined Verdy Kawasaki. He did not play many games for this team. In 2000, he moved to JEF United Ichihara, where he also played very little.
Final Playing Years
In 2001, Nishigaya joined J2 League club Albirex Niigata. He played in many different positions for them. These included defensive midfielder, central defender, and left-back. He stopped playing professional football at the end of the 2001 season.
Coaching Football: Takayuki Nishigaya's Journey
After finishing his playing career, Nishigaya began coaching. In 2003, he started coaching at the University of Tsukuba, where he had studied.
Early Coaching Roles
In 2004, he joined Tokyo Verdy. He coached their youth teams until 2009. In 2010, he became a manager for Meiji University. Nishigaya also worked as an assistant coach. He was at Albirex Niigata in 2012. Then, he joined Mito HollyHock from 2013 to 2015.
Becoming a Head Coach
After his time as an assistant, Nishigaya became the head coach at Mito HollyHock. In February 2018, he took over as head coach for SC Sagamihara. Later, he moved to Matsumoto Yamaga. There, he first coached the under-18 team. In 2020, he became an assistant coach for their main team.
Coaching the Singapore National Team
In April 2022, Takayuki Nishigaya was chosen to manage the Singapore national team. His contract was for two years.
Challenges and Results
Nishigaya faced challenges in his role. Singapore did not qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. They lost to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. They did win against Myanmar.
In the AFF Cup, Singapore had a tough time. They won against Laos and Myanmar. They also had a draw with Vietnam. However, a big loss to Malaysia meant they did not reach the semi-finals.
Public Reaction and Departure
In June 2023, Singapore had two friendly draws against teams from Oceania. Fans at the stadium loudly called for the coach to be replaced. Nishigaya even needed security for protection.
Singapore won against Guam in the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, the next round started poorly. Singapore lost 5–0 to South Korea and 3–1 to Thailand. On January 29, 2024, Nishigaya was removed from his role as Singapore's head coach. He had won 8 out of 21 matches.
Coaching the Thailand U23 Team
On September 4, 2024, Nishigaya became the head coach for the Thailand U-23 team. His start was difficult. He lost all of his first five matches. This included a 3–2 loss to Hong Kong U-23, where his team was down 3–0 at halftime. On June 27, 2025, he was removed from his position as Thailand U-23 head coach because of his poor record.
