The Kyrgyzstan national football team is a group of football players who represent Kyrgyzstan in international matches. They are also known as the "White Falcons." The team is managed by the Kyrgyz Football Union. They are part of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Central Asian Football Association.

Team History and Achievements

Starting Out in Football

Before 1991, Kyrgyz players were part of the USSR national football team. After Kyrgyzstan became an independent country in 1991, their own national team was formed. Their very first match was on August 23, 1992, against Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan won that game 3-0.

In 1994, the Kyrgyz Football Federation joined AFC and FIFA. This meant they could play in bigger international tournaments. They tried to qualify for the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 AFC Asian Cup, but they did not make it past the early rounds.

Making Their Mark: AFC Asian Cup Debut

Valery Kichin 2022
Valery Kichin was the captain for Kyrgyzstan at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Kyrgyzstan started to become more successful in the years that followed. They played in the AFC Challenge Cup several times. In 2010, they finished third, and in 2014, they were runners-up.

A big moment came when they qualified for their first major tournament, the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. They were in a tough group with China, Philippines, and South Korea. After losing to China and South Korea, they needed to win their last group match against the Philippines.

In that important game, Vitalij Lux scored three goals, helping Kyrgyzstan win 3-1. This was their first-ever win in the tournament! This victory helped them reach the Round of 16, where they played against the United Arab Emirates. The game was very exciting and went into extra time. Even though Tursunali Rustamov scored a late goal to tie the game, they eventually lost 3-2.

In 2018, Kyrgyzstan reached their highest-ever FIFA ranking of 75th in the world.

For the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, Kyrgyzstan played their qualification matches at home. They won against Singapore and Myanmar, and had a draw with Tajikistan. These results meant they qualified for the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar.

In 2023, Kyrgyzstan also co-hosted the first-ever 2023 CAFA Nations Cup with Uzbekistan.

Home Stadium

The team plays its home matches at the Dolen Omurzakov Stadium in Bishkek. This stadium can hold 23,000 fans.
