Takeshi Yamaguchi (山口 武士, Yamaguchi Takeshi, born June 10, 1979) is a former Japanese football (soccer) player. He was born in Kumamoto, Japan. Yamaguchi mainly played as a midfielder during his career.

Takeshi Yamaguchi's Football Journey

Takeshi Yamaguchi started his professional football career in 1998. After finishing high school, he joined Kashima Antlers. This club plays in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league.

Early Career and Loans

Even though he was part of a big club, Yamaguchi did not get to play in any official matches for Kashima Antlers until 2001. In 2000, he was loaned to Oita Trinita. This club was in the J2 League, the second-highest league in Japan. However, he still did not play in any matches during his time there.

Playing in Lower Leagues

In 2002, Yamaguchi moved to Sony Sendai. This team played in the Japan Football League (JFL). The JFL is a league below J1 and J2. Here, he finally got to play regularly. He played in many matches over three seasons for Sony Sendai.

Returning to His Hometown Club

In 2005, Yamaguchi joined his local club, Rosso Kumamoto. At that time, the club was in the Japanese Regional Leagues. These are leagues below the JFL. He became a regular player for them.

Thanks to his efforts and the team's performance, Rosso Kumamoto was promoted to the JFL in 2006. The club later changed its name to Roasso Kumamoto. In 2007, the team did very well. They finished second in the JFL. This success meant they were promoted again, this time to the J2 League, starting in 2008.

Later Career and Retirement

Once Roasso Kumamoto reached the J2 League, Yamaguchi's chances to play became less frequent. He played fewer matches from 2008 onwards. Takeshi Yamaguchi decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 2009 season.
