Takla Lake is a large and beautiful lake located in British Columbia, Canada. It is the fifth biggest natural lake in this Canadian province. Imagine a long, deep lake surrounded by mountains, much like a fjord you might see in Norway. The Swannell Ranges stand tall to its east.
Water flows into Takla Lake from the north through the Driftwood River. The Middle River then carries water out of the lake.

The land around Takla Lake is also important for wildlife. A special area called Mount Blanchet Provincial Park is found on a peninsula that reaches into the lake. Here, you might spot herds of woodland caribou, which are a type of reindeer. Grizzly bears also use this area as their winter home.
There are two other important natural spots near the lake. One is the Takla Lake Marine Provincial Park, which protects parts of the lake and its shores. Two famous pilots, Russ Baker and Grant McConachie, began their "bush plane" flights from Takla Lake. Bush planes are small aircraft that can land in remote areas, often on water or rough airstrips. They were important for connecting distant communities.
The lake is also a popular route for canoe trips. Many people enjoy paddling from the top end of the lake all the way down to Fort St. James. This journey offers amazing views and a chance to experience the wilderness.
