Takumi Horiike (堀池 巧, Horiike Takumi, born 6 September 1965) is a former Japanese football player. He was born on September 6, 1965. Horiike played as a defender. He was also a key player for the Japan national team.

Playing for Clubs
Takumi Horiike started his football journey in high school. He went to Shimizu Higashi High School. There, he won the national high school championship. His teammates included Katsumi Oenoki and Kenta Hasegawa. After high school, he continued to play football at Juntendo University.
Starting His Professional Career
In 1988, after finishing university, Horiike joined a team called Yomiuri. This team was part of the Japan Soccer League. He first played as a defensive midfielder. Later, he became a centre back, playing alongside Hisashi Kato.
Joining Shimizu S-Pulse
When Japan started its first professional league, the J1 League, a new team was formed in his hometown. This team was Shimizu S-Pulse. Horiike joined them in 1992. He met his high school friends, Oenoki and Hasegawa, there again. He played as a right full back for Shimizu S-Pulse. After the first season, he was chosen as one of the best players in the league. This award is called the Best Eleven.
Moving to Cerezo Osaka
In 1998, Horiike moved to Cerezo Osaka. He played there for a short time. He then came back to Shimizu S-Pulse in 1999 before he stopped playing football professionally.
Playing for Japan
Takumi Horiike played for the Japan national team many times. He played 58 matches and scored 2 goals between 1986 and 1995.
First International Match
He played his first international game on August 1, 1986. This was a friendly match against Malaysia. He was still a university student at that time. For the national team, he mostly played as a right full back.
Winning the Asian Cup
Horiike was part of the Japan team that won the 1992 Asian Cup. He played in 4 matches during this important competition.
World Cup Qualifiers
Under coach Hans Ooft, Japan almost made it to the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Horiike was playing in the final qualifying match. Japan needed to win to go to the World Cup. But in the last moments of the game, Iraq scored a goal. This draw stopped Japan from going to the World Cup. Japanese fans remember this match as the Agony of Doha.
After Retirement
After his playing career, Takumi Horiike started working as a football commentator on television. He shares his knowledge and thoughts about the game.
