Katsumi Oenoki (大榎 克己, Ōenoki Katsumi, born April 3, 1965) is a former Japanese football player. He played as a Midfielder and was also a coach. He was part of the Japan national team.

Playing Career Highlights

Katsumi Oenoki started his football journey in school. He went to Shimizu Higashi High School. There, he won a national high school championship. His teammates included future stars like Kenta Hasegawa and Takumi Horiike. After high school, he continued playing football at Waseda University.

Joining Professional Clubs

In 1988, Oenoki joined a team called Yamaha Motors. This team was part of the Japan Soccer League. Later, Japan started its first professional league, the J1 League. A new team, Shimizu S-Pulse, was formed in his hometown.

Oenoki joined Shimizu S-Pulse in 1992. He played again with his high school friends, Hasegawa and Horiike. He helped Shimizu S-Pulse win important titles. These included the 1996 J.League Cup and the 2001 Emperor's Cup. He also helped them reach the finals of the 1999 J1 League.

He played over 250 league games for Shimizu S-Pulse. He retired from playing football after the 2002 season.

Playing for Japan

Katsumi Oenoki also played for the Japan national team. He played 5 games for his country between 1989 and 1990. His first international game was on May 5, 1989. It was a friendly match against Korea in Seoul. He also played in the qualifying games for the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Coaching and Managing Teams

After his playing career, Oenoki became a coach. In 2003, he worked as a coach at Shimizu S-Pulse. From 2004 to 2007, he was the manager for Waseda University's football team.

Under his leadership, Waseda University's team improved a lot. They moved up from a local league to a higher league. In 2006, they finished second in the national university championship. In 2007, he got a special coaching license. This license is needed to manage a J.League club.

In 2008, he went back to Shimizu S-Pulse. He became a manager for their youth team. In July 2014, he took over as the manager for the main Shimizu S-Pulse team. He left this role in July 2015.
