Takuya Suzumura, whose full name is 鈴村 拓也 (Suzumura Takuya), is a former Japanese athlete. He was born on September 13, 1978. He played both football (which is also called soccer) and futsal professionally. After a short time playing football, he became a very successful futsal player for his country.
Playing Football
Takuya Suzumura started his professional football journey after finishing high school. In 1997, he joined Vissel Kobe, a team that had just moved up to the J1 League. The J1 League is the top football league in Japan.
He played as a defensive midfielder for Vissel Kobe in 1997. He played in 6 league games that year. However, in 1998, he did not play in any matches. He decided to retire from football at the end of the 1998 season.
Becoming a Futsal Star
After leaving football, Takuya Suzumura started a new career in futsal in 2000. Futsal is a type of football played on a smaller field, usually indoors, with five players per side.
He quickly became a key player and was chosen for the Japan national futsal team in 2000. He represented Japan in the AFC Futsal Championship for nine years in a row, from 2000 to 2008.
